a plaintive cry

My friend Kat’s reaction to a review of The Darjeeling Express that slams it as a rich-white-person’s wish-fulfillment jerkoff: “Dang. Can’t I just watch the pretty colors go by, does that have to mean I’m going to third base with the Machine?”

  1. Not having seen it, I of course reserve judgment. But doesn’t a desire to watch the pretty colors go by while worrying about not going to third base with the Machine define a certain kind of middle class whiteness to begin with?

I think Jessica Hopper is full of crap about half the time, but she’s not the first person to note this Wes trend.
